International Women’s Day – Protecting ALL Women

Governor Moore, Senate President Ferguson, and Speaker Jones announced a measure to create a constitutional amendment enshrining abortion in the Maryland Constitution.  Maryland has some of the most extreme abortion laws and services in the entire country.  This proposed constitutional amendment is nothing more than a political ploy to scare voters for next year’s election.

Maryland’s abortion laws already permit abortion on-demand for the entire nine months of pregnancy.  Late-term abortions are done in Maryland.  Insurance companies must pay 100% for abortions.  Your minor daughter can get an abortion without parental notification or consent. Taxpayers pay for abortions in Maryland.  Maryland’s current abortion laws are radical and should not be enshrined in our constitution.

Democratic lawmakers have declared Maryland a destination state for abortion travel.  Governor Moore said today, “As long as I am governor, our state will be a safe haven for abortion rights.  The importance of today is that Marylanders’ reproductive rights are protected long after I am governor of this state.”  Governor Moore proudly highlighted that on his first day in office he released $3.5 million in funding for an abortion care training program that he says, “ensures access to high-quality, safe abortion care”.  When in fact, this training program allows for non-physicians to perform abortions.  This is radical and not safe for women.  Maryland is poised to become a mecca for human trafficking of minors forced to have an abortion without parental consent.

Claiming that abortion access needs to be expanded is outrageous when Maryland has some of the highest abortion rates in the nation due to the permissive language used in our state laws and a lack of regulation.  Maryland is one of only three states that does not report any abortion data to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  Abortion is already “enshrined” in Maryland and the argument that abortion is a fundamental right is false when healthy full-term babies are aborted at will.  When preborn life is so easily discarded, we are not working in the best interest of ALL Marylanders.  All human life is equal and worthy of protection, and we aim to be a voice for the voiceless.  We will not give up standing for the right to life – including teenage girls, women, and their preborn children!
