Sticking with it no matter what

Liberals in Washington suffer from Ostrich syndrome. When it comes to Obamacare, they have their heads in the sand. They refuse to do anything to help fix the clearly broken system and continue to pretend like it is working marvelously.

Politicians, special interest groups, and the CBO (Congressional Budget Office) made promises and estimates for healthcare and affordability that were insanely wrong. The program costs vastly more than they promised and many fewer people are participating. Here are a few highlights:

  • 100% off – The CBO said +20 million people would enroll in the Obamacare exchanges – it was closer to 10 million people.
  • 6% of the people the CBO estimated actually enrolled in the small business program! Not 4 million, but a mere 233,000! That's 94% off the mark.
  • +$8 billion off - The CBO used some government math to say that the Obamacare "risk corridor program" would bring in $8 billion when it is actually billions in deficit!
  • 62% higher – The CBO underestimated Medicaid expansion by $26 billion – costing the federal government and states much more than they promised.

Week after week, insurers continue to pull out of state exchanges. People seeking health insurance have seen enormous increases in their premiums while deductibles and co-pays keep going up too. It's become the UN-Affordable Health Care Act.

Still the Washington liberals refuse to act and have committed to "Resist" any changes to Obamacare. They need to stop playing politics with people's healthcare and get to work!

Completely ignoring Maryland's crumbling health exchange, Senator Chris Van Hollen took to the Senate floor for his first speech (posted on his US Senate webpage), "denouncing Senate Republicans for what he called a 'reckless' and 'irresponsible' plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act." He promises to "fight every day to protect Obamacare." Senator Van Hollen refuses to work for Maryland citizens as he maintains his extreme position.

Right here in Maryland, many of our rural citizens only have one insurance company in the Exchange. United Healthcare left last year and Cigna just left the individual health insurance market. Carefirst BlueCross BlueShield has applied for a 58% rate increase because of their losses and they have recently left other states. Senator Van Hollen is working to earn his progressive liberal stripes with his new boss, Chuck Schumer, and not for the health care for Maryland citizens.

The CBO estimates on the reform measures proposed by the GOP, or just about anything, cannot be trusted. The main-stream-media continues to report only part of the facts. The latest talking points from Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer and company are that insurance companies are pulling out of Obamacare exchanges across the country, "because of the uncertainty created by the Trump Administration, it's not fundamentally the Affordable Care Act." (Sen. Brown OH (D) CNN this week) The truth is that the Obamacare Marketplaces are not sustainable. Next year, there will be large areas of our country with zero insurance companies offering plans in the Obamacare exchange marketplace.

Washington liberals need to get their heads out of the sand and get to work to make sure people are not left without health care across our state and nation. They must stop putting their Party over their people and work across the aisle to fix the mess they created.

Tuesday, we are celebrating the birth of our great nation. The Continental Congress, meeting in Philadelphia, adopted the Declaration of Independence 241 years ago on July 4, 1776. Our tiny band of 13 colonies knew they were taking on the powerful British Empire that day. By God's great providence, an amazing group of brave and thoughtful men led and established our nation. Here are the first two sentences – the 2nd is sometimes regarded as the one of the most well known sentences in America.

The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen United States of America,

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

Trip of a lifetime


My husband, Mark, and I just returned from a trip to Alaska and Canada. One more item checked off our bucket list.

We cruised out of Seattle and then traveled up to Vancouver and Whistler, British Columbia, by car. The wildlife was spectacular! We saw bald eagles, orca whales, bears, glaciers, and so much more. The weather could not have been better.
